Casting as Advocacy

Prioritizing local, diverse, and specific casting for
Bay Area theatre

The Casting Collective is a team of Casting Directors with extensive experience and deep ties to the Bay Area theatre community. They have created and maintain the most comprehensive, regularly updated local talent database in the region. Casting locally is the predominant practice of the Collective. The Casting Collective strives to offer a full range of casting services which showcase the local artist community and encourage theatres to hire actors living and working within the SF Bay Area. In the wake of the pandemic and the massive national call for greater representation and prioritization, regional theatre has fundamentally changed. The Casting Collective is a response to this call for change in the way theaters access, promote and hire artists, in order to foster an intentional, anti-racist, collaborative future. Their purpose is to advance the interests of local actors and encourage institutions to explore, engage with and hire from within this community instead of searching elsewhere for their talent.

Advocacy, Integrity & Specificity

 Theater Bay Area General Auditions

Due to the overwhelming number of 800 applications submitted to the 2025 Theater Bay Area General Auditions this year, The Casting Collective has been hired to recommend actors for the 250 audition slots available.

We want to be transparent about what goes into us recommending someone a slot.

1. We only make recommendations to TBA based on the materials you submitted (resume and headshot).

2. TBA makes all final decisions on who receives a slot.

At Casting Collective we prioritize:
1. Those who applied last year and were not given a slot.
3.
Those who would benefit from being seen by the mix of auditing companies attending at this moment in their career.
2. A variety of levels of experience.
4. A diverse pool of auditioners regarding ethnicity, gender identity, age, and ability.

Land Acknowledgment

The Casting Collective members exist on the traditional lands of the Ohlone, Chochenyo, Karkin, Ramaytush, Cowlitz, Kalapuya, Atfalati Peoples and the confederated tribes of the Grand Ronde & Siletz Indians past and present. We honor with gratitude the land itself and the people who have stewarded it throughout the generations. We commit to continue to learn how to be better occupants of this land we inhabit.
